Is it just me, or is The Monster in the Dark one of the most adorable characters ever drawn?

Announcing the return of Stark Raving Sane - The Blog!

starkravingsane-ng.blogspot.com for those who don't like links.

I'm gonna try to post once a week - usually Sunday. Mostly, they will be extended (probably 1000 words or so) versions of posts I make to the lj (all friends-locked), but edited and even possibly proofread. I'll repost blog entries here just in case you're lazy - but always behind cuts for the sake of your Friend pages. I do, however, ask that you comment on the blog rather than the lj. Links will be provided every post.

SRS-TB (start raving sane the blog) will not replace my lj - shorter posts, comments on my day and so forth will still be here (friends-locked, for the most part).

By popular request, the first will probably be an extended version of the Beethoven's 5th/V for Vendetta post.

Tell your friends! If you like.

WANT!

With my newfound love of all things radio and my oldfound love of all things Batman, this is $20 worth of Nomi-heaven. Unfortunately, I'm poor and cannot partake. A girl can dream though.

I did it. It's amazing. Except Javert, who is mostly amazing but wins the "you-ruined-the-moment" award for going off-key on the high notes on his suicide song.

Also amusing is the fact that the English translation is occasionally not even close. Some favorites include "On My Own" (originally "Mon Histoire" which translates to "my story") and "A Little Fall of Rain (originally "Un peu de sang qui pleure" or roughly "a little blood that cries").

While itunes is generally woefully understocked in the musical theatre department, I've come across a rare gem - the 1991 revival of Les Miserable.

From Paris. In French.

Even Amazon doesn't carry it. It's on the pricey side, but I have enough gift money to buy the whole thing with some to spare, so here's my question:

Pretentious? Awesome? Both? Should I do it?

On an interesting side note, they also carry the full London original cast and the full symphonic recording (which is presumably the dream cast, although I'm still not entirely clear what that's all about) but only highlights from the original American cast. If anyone has that particularly recording and would like to lend it to me/send me a digital copy, I'd be much obliged. The UNC Library copy appears to have gone missing.

Go to this site and learn many new and interesting words while helping to alleviate world hunger! It's fun! And free!

And yes, I did look up how to spell "alleviate." Although I know what it means.

The creators of Tin Man* CLEARLY did not read the Evil Overlord list. Seriously, Azkadellia is the most incompetent villain ever. I started to go through and list all the rules she breaks and it's mind-boggling. I don't think I've ever seen a villain so amazingly and stereotypically dumb.

*for those who don't know - it's the new Sci-Fi Channel mini-series that's basically The Wizard of Oz by way of Star Wars gone steampunk. With cool sets, but crappy graphics. And LOTS of gratuitous cleavage.

Dear Leonard Bernstein,

Handel is not Brahms. Just so you know. Thank you for a good laugh, even if it was accompanied by a cringe.

~Me

For those who would understand, go find Bernstein's recording of The Messiah from from the 1950s. See if you don't laugh and cringe too.
